A CSV file can’t contain images, so Book Tracker has to find each cover somewhere else. It does that while you wait on the import screen, before anything is added.
Where covers come from
- An image link in the file. Some apps, like BookBuddy and Delicious Library 3, export a link to the cover you chose.
- A Google Books ID. Reading List and BookBuddy export one, and Book Tracker uses it to get the cover.
- The ISBN. Book Tracker looks the book up online and takes the cover from there.
When covers are missing
- The book has no ISBN and no image link, or the link no longer works.
- The ISBN was ruined by a spreadsheet (it looks like 9.78075E+12). For Goodreads and Book Crawler files, the review screen flags these books.
- No online source has a cover for that edition.
How to fix it
Add the cover by hand:
- Open the book and tap Edit.
- Tap Edit image.
- Choose an image from your photos or files, or search for a cover online.
Import again with ISBNs:
- Add the missing ISBNs, or a link to the cover image, to your file.
- Import it again. Book Tracker recognizes the books you already have.
- On the review screen, choose Fill in what is missing. A book without a cover gets one; books that already have a cover keep it.
A book that had no ISBN in your library isn’t recognized by the new ISBN: it’s flagged as Looks like a book you already have. Choose Fill in what is missing on that row, or it comes in as a new book.
⚠️ Without an ISBN or an image link, the cover has to be added by hand.
