BookBuddy exports more about your books than almost any other app, and Book Tracker reads nearly all of it: series, locations, wish list, purchases, and your reading. You don’t need to switch BookBuddy to English first.
Export your BookBuddy library
- Open BookBuddy and tap Settings.
- Tap Export.
- Choose CSV as the format.
- Save the file to Files or iCloud Drive, or AirDrop it to the device where you use Book Tracker.
Don’t open and save the file in a spreadsheet first. Use it exactly as BookBuddy made it.
Import the file into Book Tracker
- Open Book Tracker and go to Settings → Import.
- Tap Choose File and select the BookBuddy file.
- Under Exported from, Book Tracker shows Book Buddy. If it shows a different app, tap it and pick Book Buddy.
- Tap Continue. Book Tracker looks up your books and finds their covers. When it’s done, tap Review.
- Review the list. Each row says what will happen to that book; tap a row to leave it out.
- Tap the Import button, which shows how many books are coming in (for example, Import 312 books). Book Tracker backs up your library before it adds anything.
What comes across
- The book: title, subtitle, every author (compound surnames like García Márquez included), ISBN, pages, summary, publisher, place and date of publication, original publication date, language.
- Series and volume number.
- Format, even when you typed it in your own language: Hardcover, Rilegato, Gebunden, Hörbuch, Audiolibro, and so on. Audiobooks keep their running time.
- Narrators, illustrators, and translators.
- Genres and categories, both as categories in Book Tracker, plus your tags.
- Physical location, as the book’s location.
- Wish list: books on your BookBuddy wish list go to your Book Tracker wishlist.
- Purchase date and price. If Purchase Price is empty, Book Tracker uses List Price.
- Reading status (Read, Reading, Unfinished) with start and finish dates, and the current page for books you are reading.
- Rating, converted to the rating scale you use in Book Tracker, and notes.
- Covers: your uploaded covers, or the Google Books cover when the book came from there.
Limits
- BookBuddy keeps one reading per book, so each book arrives with one reading.
- Loans are not imported.
- A book marked Unread arrives with no reading status.
