Migrating from Bookmory

Bookmory keeps more about each reading than most apps, and Book Tracker brings all of it across: every reading with its dates and reading time, your purchases, and loans. Bookmory exports to Excel, so there’s one extra step to turn the file into CSV.

Switch Bookmory to English

Bookmory writes its column names in the language the app is set to, and Book Tracker reads them in English.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Apps, then Bookmory.
  3. Tap Language and choose English.

You can switch it back once the export is done.

Export your Bookmory library

  1. Open Bookmory and go to the Profile tab.
  2. Tap Export.
  3. Under File format, choose Excel (xlsx).
  4. Save the file to Files or iCloud Drive.

Convert the file to CSV

Book Tracker imports CSV files, so open the Excel file in Numbers (free on every Apple device) or Excel.

  1. Open the .xlsx file.
  2. Delete the first row. The column names (Title, Authors, Translators, and so on) should now be the first row.
  3. Export as CSV:
    • In Numbers: File → Export To → CSV.
    • In Excel: File → Save As, then choose CSV UTF-8.

Import the file into Book Tracker

  1. Open Book Tracker and go to Settings → Import.
  2. Tap Choose File and select the CSV file.
  3. Under Exported from, Book Tracker shows Bookmory. If it shows a different app, tap it and pick Bookmory.
  4. Tap Continue. Book Tracker looks up your books and finds their covers. When it’s done, tap Review.
  5. Review the list. Each row says what will happen to that book; tap a row to leave it out.
  6. Tap the Import button, which shows how many books are coming in (for example, Import 312 books). Book Tracker backs up your library before it adds anything.

What comes across

  • Every reading. A book you read twice arrives with two readings, each with its dates and the time it took.
  • Reading status: read, reading, or gave up.
  • The rating of your most recent reading, converted to the rating scale you use in Book Tracker.
  • Comments, purchase memos, and loan notes, saved as notes.
  • Purchase date and price of the first purchase. When you bought a book more than once, where you bought each copy and your memos are saved as notes.
  • Loans: who has the book, when it went out, and when it came back.
  • Wishlist: books on your Bookmory wishlist go to your Book Tracker wishlist.
  • Tags and collections as tags.
  • The book: title, authors, translators, illustrators, narrators, publisher, publication date, language, ISBN, and pages.

Limits

  • If Bookmory isn’t in English when you export, Book Tracker doesn’t recognize the file. Pick Bookmory from the list anyway: Book Tracker reminds you to export again in English.
  • Bookmory doesn’t export a book’s format, so every book arrives with the default format set in Book Tracker’s settings.
  • When Bookmory records how far you are as a percentage instead of a page count, the page count is left empty. Book Tracker fills it in from the ISBN when it can.
