Reading List exports a clean CSV file, and Book Tracker reads it as it is, including where you are in the books you’re reading.
Export your Reading List library
- Open Reading List and go to Settings.
- Tap Import / Export, then Export.
- Save the CSV file to Files or iCloud Drive, or AirDrop it to the device where you use Book Tracker.
Don’t open and save the file in a spreadsheet first. Use it exactly as Reading List made it.
Import the file into Book Tracker
- Open Book Tracker and go to Settings → Import.
- Tap Choose File and select the Reading List file.
- Under Exported from, Book Tracker shows Reading List. If it shows a different app, tap it and pick Reading List.
- Tap Continue. Book Tracker looks up your books and finds their covers. When it’s done, tap Review.
- Review the list. Each row says what will happen to that book; tap a row to leave it out.
- Tap the Import button, which shows how many books are coming in (for example, Import 312 books). Book Tracker backs up your library before it adds anything.
What comes across
- The book: title, subtitle, authors, ISBN, pages, publisher, publication date, description, and language.
- Reading status, worked out from the dates Reading List keeps: finished books arrive as read, books you gave up on as did not finish, started or paused books as currently reading.
- Your place in the book, as a page or a percentage, whichever Reading List recorded.
- Rating, converted to the rating scale you use in Book Tracker, and notes.
- Lists become tags, and subjects become categories.
- Covers from Google Books, for the books that came from there.
Limits
- Reading List doesn’t record a book’s format, so every book arrives with the default format set in Book Tracker’s settings. Change it before importing if most of your books are ebooks or audiobooks.
- Reading List keeps one reading per book, so each book arrives with one reading.
- The order of books inside a list is not imported.
