Migrating from The StoryGraph

You can bring your whole StoryGraph library into Book Tracker, including every time you read a book. No settings to change, no columns to match: export the file, choose it, and Book Tracker recognizes it.

Export your StoryGraph library

The StoryGraph exports from its website, so a browser on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac works best.

  1. Sign in at app.thestorygraph.com and open Manage Account.
  2. Scroll to Manage Your Data and tap Export StoryGraph Library.
  3. Tap Generate export. It can take a few minutes for a large library: refresh the page until the file appears.
  4. Download the CSV file and keep it somewhere you can reach, such as Files or iCloud Drive.

Don’t open and save the file in a spreadsheet first. Use it exactly as The StoryGraph made it.

Import the file into Book Tracker

  1. Open Book Tracker and go to Settings → Import.
  2. Tap Choose File and select the file you downloaded.
  3. Under Exported from, Book Tracker shows The StoryGraph. If it shows a different app, tap it and pick The StoryGraph.
  4. Tap Continue. Book Tracker looks up your books and finds their covers. When it’s done, tap Review.
  5. Review the list. Each row says what will happen to that book; tap a row to leave it out.
  6. Tap the Import button, which shows how many books are coming in (for example, Import 312 books). Book Tracker backs up your library before it adds anything.

What comes across

  • Every reading. A book you read three times arrives with three readings, each with its dates. If The StoryGraph counted more readings than it dated, the extra ones arrive without dates.
  • Reading status. To read, currently reading, did not finish. Paused books arrive as currently reading. The status decides how the last reading ended: a book you gave up on after earlier readings arrives as did not finish, and a book you picked up again has its earlier readings plus one in progress.
  • Your rating, converted to the rating scale you use in Book Tracker.
  • Your review, saved as a note on the book.
  • Tags, format, and ISBN.
  • Narrators, translators, and illustrators from the Contributors column.
  • Owned books go to your library. Books not marked as owned arrive as Not owned, so they stay out of your library count.

Limits

  • Moods, pace, and content warnings have no place in Book Tracker and are not imported.
  • When a book has an Amazon identifier instead of an ISBN, the identifier is left out. The book still comes in; Book Tracker just can’t use it to find extra details.
  • The StoryGraph doesn’t export page counts or publishers. Book Tracker fills in page counts from the ISBN when it can, and publishers too if you turned that on in Settings → Configurations.

If something doesn’t look right after the import, write to us from the app. We read every message.
