About Book Tracker

Book Tracker is an app designed to help you organize, track, and plan your reading across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It allows you to catalog your personal library, log your current reads, track your progress, and set goals for an enhanced reading experience.

To add a book, tap the + button located on the homepage or in any of the book list sections. You can search for the Title or ISBN, or enter the details manually. You can also scan the barcode for quick entry.

Yes! Use the built-in reading timer to log how long you spend reading. You can view your reading statistics and see how much time you dedicate to each book.

Book Tracker for iOS (it includes iPhone and iPad) and Mac are two separate apps. Developing and maintaining each version takes a lot of hard work and a lot of time.

In order to ensure constant updates and new features and to be sustainable as an independent developer, two separate purchases are required. Note that this is not a subscription but a single purchase for the iOS app and one for the macOS app. Despite being two separate apps, the library automatically syncs between iOS and Mac via iCloud.

Functionality and Features

You can set an annual reading goal to stay motivated and track your progress throughout the year. To create a Reading Challenge, open the Statistics section, tap the “Add Reading Challenge” button, and select how many books you want to read in the current year. Book Tracker will then monitor your progress and remind you of your goal.

Yes, you can create series and assign a reading order to your books. To do this, open the Series page, tap the three-dot button in the top-right corner, and select “Order series.” A new page will open where you can assign a number to each book in the series, making it easy to keep track of the reading sequence.

Yes, you can import your library from other apps as long as they allow exporting to a CSV file. Book Tracker officially supports imports from Goodreads, BookBuddy, and Reading List.

Additionally, you can import libraries from other apps by customizing the fields to import from the CSV file and selecting “Other” as the import format. This flexibility makes it easy to migrate your library into Book Tracker. If you encounter any issues while importing your library, feel free to contact me for support.

Troubleshooting

First, ensure that you are signed in with the same Apple ID on all devices and that iCloud and iCloud Drive are enabled for Book Tracker. If iCloud is enabled but synchronization is still not working, proceed as follows on all your devices (one device at a time):

  1. Open the app settings and execute a backup in the “Backup & restore” section.
  2. Open the device Settings and in the iCloud section disable iCloud for Book Tracker.
  3. Open Book Tracker and check that no books are in the library.
  4. Re-enable iCloud for Book Tracker from the device Settings.
  5. Open the Book Tracker and check that the library populates again.

Perform this operation on all your devices. From this point on, synchronization should resume. If you notice that some books are missing, you can restore a backup in order to have all your library again. If the problem continues, you can contact support for further assistance.

CSV files cannot contain images. For this reason, while importing a CSV file from another app, Book Tracker cannot restore your old covers. Book Tracker tries to automatically add missing images whenever possible.

If this is not possible, you can proceed in this way to recover the covers: open the detail of each book and accessing the Edit page you can automatically download all the information of a book by clicking on “Update book online“, including the cover. You can also manually import an image or take a picture of the book cover. This procedure must be carried out for each individual book.

Sync and Backup

Book Tracker uses iCloud to sync your data. As long as you’re signed in with the same Apple ID and have iCloud enabled, your library will sync automatically across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Your data is securely stored in iCloud, and the app automatically creates daily backups to ensure your information is safe.

Additionally, you can export your book data as a CSV file for an extra layer of backup. The CSV file export does not contain all the data entered in the app, only a subset of it. Only the backup contains the full database of the app.

Customization and Settings

Yes, you can change the app’s main color. To do this, go to the app settings -> Configurations -> Details color to select your preferred color. You can also customize the visible information in the book list, such as tags, series, ratings, and reading states. Additionally, you can choose the rating system, with options for a 1-5 or 1-10 scale.

Tap on the book in your library, and then select “Edit” to update the details, including the title, author, description, ISBN code and so on.
