Migrating from other apps via CSV Import

If your current book management app allows you to export your library as a CSV file, you can easily migrate to Book Tracker. This guide will walk you through the process of importing your library into Book Tracker and mapping the data to ensure everything is organized correctly.

Exporting Your Library as a CSV File

Before you can import your library into Book Tracker, you need to export it from your current app:

  1. Open your current book management app.
  2. Locate the export function (usually under Settings, Tools, or File menu).
  3. Select the CSV format for export.
  4. Choose the fields to include in the export (e.g., Title, Author, Pages, ISBN, etc.).
  5. Save the CSV file to a location on your computer or cloud storage.

If your app does not provide an option to export as CSV, consult its support documentation to see if a workaround is available.

Importing the CSV File into Book Tracker

Once you have your CSV file ready, follow these steps to import it into Book Tracker:

  1. Open Book Tracker on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Go to Settings and select Import.
  3. Select the CSV file from your device and Other as import type.

Mapping CSV Columns to Book Tracker Properties

Book Tracker allows you to map the columns from your CSV file to its library properties, ensuring the data is correctly imported.

  1. After uploading the CSV file, you’ll see a list of metadata you can import in Book Tracker.
  2. For each column in the CSV file, you can assign it to a Book Tracker property.
  3. If a column does not match any property in Book Tracker, you can choose to ignore it.
  4. Once all columns are mapped, proceed with the import.

Handling Errors During Import

If any issues arise during the import process, Book Tracker will provide an error log. Common issues include:

  • Missing required fields (e.g., Title).

You can fix these errors in the CSV file and reattempt the import.

Tips for a Smooth Migration

  • Clean Your Data: Before importing, review the CSV file to ensure data is accurate and consistent.
  • Backup Your Library: Create a backup of your Book Tracker library before importing, just in case.
