What to do if a book has the wrong page count

Sometimes a book may have an incorrect page count or audiobook length. This can happen if the metadata is incomplete or if the information was entered manually. Book Tracker lets you correct the total length of a book at any time, whether you are currently reading it or have already finished it.

If the book has never been read

  • Open the book detail page.
  • Tap Edit.
  • Update the page count field with the correct number.
  • Save your changes.

From now on, every new Reading Status you create for this book will use the updated page count.

If you are currently reading the book

If you are already reading the book, you can quickly correct its total length directly from the reading status.

To do this:

  1. Open the book.
  2. Open its Reading Status.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  4. Select Edit Total Length.
  5. Enter the correct number of pages or the correct audiobook length.

This updates the length used to calculate your reading progress.

If the book is already marked as Read

You can also change the total length of a book that has already been marked as read.

The process is the same:

  1. Open the book.
  2. Open its Reading Status.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  4. Select Edit Total Length.
  5. Enter the correct value.

What happens next depends on the new length you enter.

If the New Length Is Greater Than Before

If the new total length is greater than the previous one, the book will automatically move back to the Reading status.

This allows you to continue tracking progress correctly.

If the New Length Is Smaller Than Before

If the new total length is smaller, you can still update it, but any progress that exceeds the new length must be removed.

To do this:

  • Open the reading status
  • Perform a long tap on the progress that exceeds the total length
  • Tap Delete

Once the extra progress is removed, the book’s length will be consistent again.book.

Best practices

  • Always verify the page count when adding a book, especially if you’re planning to track progress by pages or percentage.
  • For audiobooks, double-check the total duration in HH:mm format.
  • If you catch an error after starting, correct it immediately to avoid skewed statistics.
