How to move your library to another device or Apple ID

If you change device or Apple ID, you don’t need to rebuild your Book Tracker library from scratch.

Using backups, you can safely transfer your entire collection — books, reading statuses, progress, notes, quotes, positions, tags, series, purchases — from one environment to another.

Moving your library to a new device (same Apple ID)

If you’re staying on the same Apple ID and have iCloud sync enabled, your library will sync automatically.

If you’re not using iCloud sync:

  1. On your old device, open Book Tracker → Settings → Backup & Restore.
  2. Create a manual backup.
  3. Long tap/right click on the backup -> Share → send with AirDrop, Mail, or save to Files.
  4. On the new device, install Book Tracker → Settings → Backup & Restore → Select File.
  5. Import the backup you exported.

Moving your library to a new Apple ID

Apple does not allow iCloud sync across different Apple IDs. To transfer your library:

  1. On your old device, go to Settings → Backup & Restore.
  2. Create and export a backup file (e.g., save it to Files, AirDrop to the new device, or email it to yourself).
  3. On the new device, install Book Tracker using your new Apple ID.
  4. Open Settings → Backup & Restore → Select File.
  5. Import the exported backup.

Your full library will be restored on the new Apple ID.

Transferring Pro version to another Apple ID

Purchases are tied to your Apple ID. If you switch Apple ID, your Pro purchase cannot be transferred.

Apple provides a purchase transfer procedure in some cases — review this guide if you believe you qualify. Otherwise, you’ll need to unlock Pro again on the new account.

Best practices

  • Always create a manual backup before changing devices or Apple ID.
  • Export the backup to Files or external storage before wiping your old device.
  • If possible, test the restore on the new device before erasing the old one.
  • If you’re only upgrading hardware and keeping the same Apple ID, iCloud sync is the easiest way.

✅ With backups and exports, moving your library to a new device or Apple ID is quick and safe — your data stays in your hands, never on external servers.
