Book Tracker integrates with Live Activities on iPhone and iPad, so you can keep your reading timer visible and under control even when you leave the app.
This makes it easy to focus on your reading without constantly reopening Book Tracker.

Starting a Live Activity
A Live Activity begins automatically when you start a reading session:
- Open the book detail page.
- Tap on the active Reading Status.
- Start the reading timer.
Once the timer is running, Book Tracker automatically creates a Live Activity that appears on your Lock Screen.
Using Live Activity on iPhone
- Lock Screen → the Live Activity shows elapsed time and the current book.
- Dynamic Island (on compatible iPhone models):
- Displays your ongoing reading timer.
- Tap to expand for more detail.
- Pause or resume the timer directly from the Dynamic Island without opening the app.
Combining Live Activity with Widgets
- Interactive widgets on the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center can also control the timer.
- Start, pause, or resume the reading timer from a widget and the Live Activity will update instantly.
Shortcuts integration
Because the reading timer is fully integrated with Shortcuts, you can:
- Create automations to start or stop a Live Activity when you run a Shortcut.
- Use Siri voice commands (e.g., “Hey Siri, start reading”) to launch the timer and trigger the Live Activity.
Best practices
- Use Live Activities to keep track of long reading sessions without distraction.
- On iPhone with Dynamic Island, use quick controls to pause/resume when taking breaks.
- Combine Live Activities with Focus Mode and Shortcuts for a clean, automated reading setup.
- If you track audiobooks, the timer + Live Activity helps log listening time consistently.
✅ With Live Activity support, Book Tracker makes reading timers effortless — keeping your session visible at all times and letting you control it directly from the Lock Screen, widgets, or Siri.
